Werewolf of Mayking

In Mayking, KY people talk about the half man-half canine that would kill animals and chase people. Mayking is a very small community with less than 200 people living there, so everyone know everyone else. If a stranger comes in the area, everyone knows. Back then kids would play out side at night and parent used to sit on the front porch and enjoy the peaceful night air. It was common to be coming home from work at midnight and see people sitting on their front porch.  No one ever figured out who or what this was. Being in coal mining country there are a lot of people moving in and out of the area, so there were several empty houses and some abandoned houses. In 1995 several people were talking about livestock and pets going missing and killed. This happened over a 2 week period. It all stopped one night. It was early evening and some kids were heard screaming and seen running down the road. Many people went out to see what was wrong. The creature was described as being a man from the waist down but a canine from the waist up!  He was wearing work boots and work pants but did not have a shirt on. He/It was chasing the kids. Some of the people started screaming at the creature and was able to get its attention away from the kids.  A lot of people had gathered together by now and then creature took off running up the hill side and over the ridge. No one saw the creature again and the animal killings stopped. Some odd facts came out. No dogs would bark at the creature, they dogs would lower themselves to the ground and whimper. Some even peed themselves. A lot of the dogs were hunting dogs and were not afraid of bears or other large animals in the area but they were afraid of this.

Herrington Lake--southwest part of KY

A Lake Monster has been reported being seen in this lake.  Herrington Lake is the deepest lake in Kentucky. It is about 35 miles long, up to 1,200 ft. wide, and covers 2335 acres with 325 miles of shoreline. The deepest area is near Dix Dam where the water depth reaches 249 feet.   it has the snout and tail of a pig, and sometimes even the head of a pig. It is reported to be  12-15 feet long. It is said to move as fast as a speedboat. Witnesses have reported this creature to be very shy, usually staying  away from the boat they are on. It is reported to have  a long, flexible body.

Confusing Forests

30 searches have been conducted in 2016 for people reported missing or delayed in the Daniel Boone National Forest. There are very old legends of this area that tell of the forest having plants that have a defense against people. The plants are supposed to have a chemical on their leaves and stem that will make people confused and disoriented on contact. The old legends tell of the plants moving and purposely touching people to make them confused and lost in the forest. It is said that the plants use this defense to get food for themselves. Making the people or animals so confused they cannot remember where they are and they just sit down and die.

Winged Creature

Parts of KY are large forests that are sparcely populated but one incident that keeps reoccurring over several 100s of years is the winged creature. Hunting is big in KY and you will always find reports of scared hunters who report seeing a winged creature flying quietly overhead.

Goatman or Pope Lick Monster

Some think this is a Satyr that fled Greece to find a new home where he would not be hunted., some think it is an experiment gone wrong, some even think it is the result of Devil Worship?   The Goatman or Pope Lick Monster is a legendary part-man, part-goat  creature reported to live beneath a Norfolk Southern Railroad trestle over Floyd's Fork Creek, in the Fisherville area of Louisville, Kentucky.   It has powerful, fur-covered goat like legs. It's face is said to resemble a mix of Human and Goat with a long protruding nose/mouth. Short, sharp horns protrude from the forehead, nestled in long greasy hair that matched the color of the fur on the legs. The creature lures it's victums by sounding like a small child calling for help.

Kellyville-Hopkins Goblins

On the evening of August 21, 1955, five adults and seven children arrived at the Hopkinsville police station claiming that small alien creatures from a spaceship were attacking their farmhouse and they had been holding them off with gunfire "for nearly four hours". Two of the adults, Elmer Sutton and Billy Ray Taylor, claimed they had been shooting at "twelve to fifteen" short, dark figures who repeatedly popped up at the doorway or peered into the windows .

The residents of the farmhouse described them as around three feet tall, with upright pointed ears, thin limbs (their legs were said to be almost in a state of atrophy), long arms and claw-like hands or talons. The creatures were either silvery in color, or wearing something metallic. Their movements on occasion seemed to defy gravity with them floating above the ground and appearing in high up places, and they "walked" with a swaying motion as though wading through water. Although the creatures never entered the house, they would pop up at windows and at the doorway, waking up the children in the house to a hysterical frenzy. The families fled the farmhouse in the middle of the night to the local police station and sheriff Russell Greenwell noted they were visibly shaken. The families returned to the farmhouse with Sheriff Greenwell and twenty officers, yet the occurrences continued. Police saw evidence of the struggle and damage to the house, as well as seeing strange lights and hearing noises themselves.

The Kelly Community now celebrates the anniversary of the event on the third weekend of every August with an event called the Kelly "Little Green Men" Days.

Hill Billy Beast

The Hillbilly Beast dates back to Daniel Boone’s day. The tales describe it as a hairy, smelly Bigfoot like being that howls. This legend was featured on the fourth season of History Channel's Monsters.  This creature  roams the back hills of Eastern Kentucky, near the Ohio River.  Many sightings of this creature going back over 200 years and all in the same area. Some of the sightings are different from the Bigfoot sightings of Ky. It is believed that this creature is different than bigfoot.

Bigfoot

Almost every county in KY has reported sightings of Bigfoot with the majority being in Central KY and Western Ky. Some think this is becuase of all the caves and flat lands in the area. With so many sightings reported there are over 800 listed from all the Bigfoot Research Groups in KY.  With a Shawnee Oral History of tribes reporting sightings and some legends that the Shawnee interacted with the creature with trade of food and products made by  the Shawnee and made the Bigfoot creatures. this type of commerce makes me think that the reason the creatures are so hard to find is that they have their own hidden cities in the caves and underground. There are not as many reports from Eastern KY, as the underground coal mines and strip coal mines have changed the landscape above and below ground. This could have disturbed their habitats and cities forcing them to move westward into the flatlands.  This could be an area for researchers to look into further. Naybe if you want to find a bigfoot creature, find the biggest concentration of sightings and look for a sity in the caves or underground or hidden somewhere.

Paintsville, KY Cryptid

After the  Paintsville, Kentucky  Train/UFO crash incident at  2:47 a.m. on January 14, 2002, there have been reports of a 5 foot tall purple and orange lizard like creature that walks on 2 legs and has legs with the knees bending backwards, not forward like peoples knees bend. More than one such sighting has been reported in this area but no name has been given to the creature.  Some of the sightings have reported the reptalian creatures wearing a belt and metallic or shiny looking tunic.

Cherokee Park

Is this a Gargoyle in Louisville, KY?  For decades, late night park visitors have claimed that on the full moon, the statue of Pan animates and goes for a stroll. These nights are told to be filled with mischief, like car damage and other annoying acts.
